Metamask instruction from Binance Academy

The SpreadFighter platform runs on MetaMask. The article details how to connect the Polygon network to the Metamask wallet

If you have read and followed the instructions "Authorization in SpreadFighter via MetaMask" you can skip the article.

MetaMask is an application and browser extension that is a cryptocurrency wallet connected to the Ethereum network. This extension can be downloaded from the official MetaMask website.

To connect to other networks such as Polygon, you need to add basic blockchain data to MetaMask , namely the custom RPC URL, ID and network name. To add Polygon tokens, you must import the token address.

Next, we will cover how to add Polygon and other EVM networks, such as the Binance Smart Chain, to MetaMask blockchain.

Introduction

The Polygon blockchain requires a compatible cryptocurrency wallet, such as MetaMask. Although there is no Polygon network by default in MetaMask , it is very easy to connect it in just a few minutes.

Installing and configuring MetaMask

MetaMask can be installed in the Chrome browser and can be downloaded to iOS and Android devices from MetaMask's website. Be careful and download the extension MetaMask only from the official website.

After downloading and installing the extension, you will be redirected to the welcome page MetaMask, where you will need to click the [Get Started] button.

To create a new wallet, tap [Create a Wallet]. You can also import an old wallet using cid-phrase, by clicking on the [Import wallet] button.

MetaMask will ask you to anonymously share usage data to help improve the extension. Your consent or refusal will not affect your use of MetaMask.

Create a strong password to log into your wallet through your browser. Note that the password and cid-phrase are different things. The password restricts access to your wallet to unauthorized people using your device. If you forget your password, you can regain access to your wallet using cid-phrase.

After creating the password MetaMask will display information about cid-phrase your wallet. Read it carefully if you haven't worked with cryptocurrency wallets before.

To view cid-phrase, click on the lock icon, read the words and memorize them in the correct order. Keep the phrase in a safe place, preferably offline, and don't share it with anyone, as cid-phrase helps you regain access to your wallet and its contents. Press [Next] to continue.

You will then need to repeat your cid-phrase, selecting the words at the bottom of the screen in the correct order. When finished, press [Confirm] (Confirm).

Now the MetaMask wallet is ready to use. Press [All Done] to access the wallet.

For easy access to MetaMask, click the puzzle icon and pin it to the toolbar in your Chrome browser. After initial setup, the wallet will only be connected to the Ethereum network. Next, we'll break down how to connect Metamask to Polygon.

Wallet setup

Connecting your wallet to the Polygon network will require you to provide network information. First, go to MetaMask and open the drop-down menu.\

Click [Add Network] on the pop-up window.

On the page that opens, you will need to enter the following data and then click on the button[Save] (Save):

Network NamePolygon

New RPC URL

Network ID

137

Currency Ticker

MATIC

Block browser URL

https://polygonscan.com/

The connection to the Polygon network will then be completed.

Adding Polygon tokens to MetaMask

To display Polygon tokens in the wallet interface besides MATIC tokens, you need to add them manually. Note that your wallet can receive even tokens that have not been imported.

First, go to PolygonScan and search for the contract of the token you want to add and its details. If the desired token is not available on PolygonScan, find the contract address on the official project website or social media. Beware of fake contracts created by fraudsters.

Go back to MetaMask and click [Import tokens].

Copy the token contract address, and MetaMask will automatically fill in the rest of the data. If this does not happen, add them manually. To finish, click [Add Custom Token].

Select [Import Tokens]. \ [Import Tokens].

Summary

By plugging Polygon into MetaMask, you will be able to make transactions, collect NFTs, interact with DeFi and DApps, manage your cryptocurrency, exchange tokens directly in the extension and, of course, use SpreadFighter. MetaMask is not just for Ethereum and Polygon networks - it supports the entire blockchain ecosystem of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), including Binance Smart Chain. By following our guide, you can add even more networks to your wallet.
